Ongoing learning
Training combined with experience is what makes good cycle mechanics.
We offer our members the opportuniy to get further experience fixing bikes without the need to wait for faults to appear on their own bike.
Ongoing learning at Oxford Cycle Workshop Training is all about a work exchange. We offer you, as part of our bicycle recycling program, the opportunity to work on bikes being refurbished with clear and structured task sheets.
In exchange you get the chance to practice the skills you've learnt on our courses in a workshop environment, with all the correct tools, and earn credit to spend with our co-operative.
Who is this aimed at?
Our ongoing learning programme is aimed at members who have taken courses in cycle maintenance with us, who are looking to reinforce what they have learnt through practice. We require that you have received training in the tasks you will be undertaking.
Work Experience
We often receive requests for work experience placements. Unfortunately we are not able to offer opportunities to all who ask.
However having completed training with us greatly increases your chances of being offered an opportunity to gain work experience with Oxford Cycle Workshop Training or Oxford Cycle Workshop.
Tasks and Training Required
To be considered for ongoing learning opportunities you will need to have completed a course with Oxford Cycle Workshop Training. The following is a list of tasks considered in an ongoing learning programme following the completion of the course.
Introduction to Cycle Maintenance
This course introduces you to puncture repair, fitting and adjusting brake blocks, and adjusting gears and wheel bearings.
Replacing brake and gear cables, replacing and adjusting brake blocks, removing and fitting bottom bracket, adjusting wheel and headset bearings, fitting mudguards, rack and accessories.
